Club Development Officers

Hi everyone! My name is Michelle Francis and I am the City Of Canning’s Club Development Officer.
My role, in a nutshell, is to assist local community groups and sporting clubs with any internal areas that the club would like to improve or implement to make their club more sustainable. I know that these can be as varied and out there as possible and I am more than dedicated and passionate to step in and assist where I can.
My role as well as the other Club Development Officers in Western Australia is supported by the Department of Sport and Recreation. This is called the State Wide Club Development Scheme and it is an initiative that aims to build the capacity of these clubs in WA.
I have been passionately involved in sport and recreation over many years.
I have been involved in my local netball club, Winthrop Netball Club for 14 years. I have played for the club for 14 years, even representing the Fremantle Netball Association as a junior at the Association Carnival.
I have coached for 8 years, with every team I have coached reaching finals level, including one team winning a grand final. I have umpired for 9 years for my club, association and region. One of the highlights as an umpire was being selected by Jacqui Jashari to umpire at the Academy Cup Competition in Joondalup where all elite juniors around WA have a Cadet (13-14 years) and an Academy (15-16 years) teams that play each other in a round robin competition. In addition to playing and umpiring i am also an active committee member for my netball club for 4 years and this year I am the Vice President.
I have also played Tennis at Manning Tennis Club and was a pennant player for all of my junior years. Other sports I have dabbled in are basketball, volleyball, golf, hockey, water polo and touch football.
Before I joined the great Recreation Services team at Canning I held the position of Club Development Officer at the Town of Kwinana and Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale. Before my role there I was studying at Edith Cowan University in a Bachelor of Sport Management, which I am proud to have attained.
I absolutely enjoy sport and the passionate people that are involved because I am an energetic person who wants to see sport and recreation bloom not only in Canning but in WA.
