The 2011 Clubs Conference was held at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle on 27 November, with more than 250 representatives from clubs in the sport and recreation industry in attendance.
Guests on the day included key note speakers Ted Hayes and Katy Haber from the Compton Cricket Club, who brought the unique insight that comes with starting a cricket team in Los Angeles along with them to Perth.
Other presenters included Patrick Moriarty, Rachel Green, Graeme Dix, David Julian Price, John Dorazio, Venetia Stewart, Anna Haynes, Helen Cunningham, Rod Lillis, Sam Birmingham, Isaak Dury, Aaron Yeak, Tim Kennedy, Greg McLennan, and Claire Scullin, with the hilarious Peter Rowsthorn as our MC. The range in the areas of expertise was a definite plus for those in attendance.
This story from Adam Wakefield, written during the "Homiez and the POPz" tour of Australia in March, gives an idea of how the club has achieved their aims.
Ted and Katy then opened proceedings by playing this video (below) to give the audience some background about Compton, its cricketers and the club's overarching message - that 'cricket diplomacy' (as Ted calls it) can help to achieve social harmony because of its ettiquete and gentlemanly comportment:
Not to be outdone, our other presenters brought plenty to the table in the three focus areas, those being people, club management and marketing and money. Here are their presentations (with more to be added):
Graeme Dix - Landing the Big Bucks
Patrick Moriarty - "Show Me the Money"... How to Get That Grant
